Andre Vidigal has received his first senior international summons despite a difficult 18 months on the fringes at Stoke City.

StokeonTrentLive reported last month that Angola boss Pedro Soares Goncalves had flown into England and held talks over lunch with Vidigal about switching his international allegiance. He played for Portugal at youth level but uncles Lito and Jorge played for Angola, however - and Lito coached Angola too.

Now the 26-year-old forward has been called up for World Cup qualifiers against Libya and Cape Verde on March 20 and March 25 respectively. Angola have played four games so far in a six-team group, drawing three and winning one.

Cameroon are top with eight points and are on course to go straight through to the 2026 finals. The team in second could progress to a second round of qualifying and that seems to be between Libya, Cape Verde and Angola. Junior Tchamadeu has not been included in the Cameroon squad announced this morning.

Ali Al-Hamadi is in the Iraq squad for their qualifiers. Iraq, second in their group, host Kuwait on Thursday next week and then play Palestine, in Jordan. Bae Junho is in the South Korea squad for qualifiers against Oman and Jordan, both at home.

Viktor Johansson has been called up for Sweden's friendlies against Luxembourg and Northern Ireland, when he will face clubmate Jordan Thompson. Thompson also has a game against Switzerland at Windsor Park.

Lewis Koumas is in the Wales squad for games against Kazakhstan and North Macedonia.
